Doggy in the Window

Who's this little chap? Reading one of my lovely old children's books?
Seems he's found a picture he likes - goodoh - so, it's only recently I have become strangely drawn to 1950's kitsch, but I think this is a pretty good start to a potential collection.
Can anyone tell me why this little fella has a slot in his mouth? It's way too small for money (and no way to get money out anyway). Answers on a postcard before it drives me barking mad! TTFN xxxxx

  3. Just thought has he got a hole anywhere else!
What I mean is perhaps he has that so he did not explode in the kiln or however they make them! LOL

  7. There were some very tiny silver coins way back before metrication, you know... And traditionally, you were supposed to smash the piggybank to get the money out, so he might just be a doggybank, I think. If I am right, I'm so glad no one ever smashed him!

  8. Hi fleur, thanks for stopping by! I love the little dog, what a sweet little guy he is. I think he was a bank too, for small coins as the other lady said. When I was little I had a bank that only had one hole and it was meant to be broken when you wanted the money. It was the way to make you save your pennies! I never used mine so I wouldnt have to break it. Thank you for your kind comments about the cake!

  9. The slot is for a retractable tape measure which is obviously missing now. But he's cute anyway!

  11. I think it has to be a moneybox, there doesnt seem to be any other reason for the slot. I have heard of moneyboxes that you have to smash to get the money out, but I wouldnt want to break it as it is so lovely X

    I think he's gorgeous.
